Samuel W. Carter

Samuel W. Carter, 82, of Tamaroa, passed away at 6:37 P.M., Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Pinckneyville Hospital Skilled Care Unit in Pinckneyville.
Samuel was a retired painter.  He was a lifemember of Painters and Allied Trades Union.  He was an accomplished musician and chef.  He was a member of United Church of God.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II.
He was born May 15, 1921 at Cutler, IL, the son of Roy E. and Edna Fern (Place) Carter.
He married Mildred Vornberg on January 17, 1962 at Alton, IL and she preceded him in death on August 21, 1998.
He is survived by his children - Rebecca Ray of Herrin, IL, Samuel Carter of Belleville, IL, and Ramona Hasty of Cambria, IL, stepchildren - James F. Vornberg of St. Charles, MO, Mary L. Vornberg of St. Charles, MO, David Nelson of St. Louis, MO, and Jan Nelson of St. Louis, MO, one aunt - Anna Lee Place of Pinckneyville, nephew - William Charles Place of Tamaroa, twelve grandchildren, five step grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother - William A. Place.
Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Elder Matt Zollner officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 7 P.M., Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery at Tamaroa.
